Goltens opens ultra-modern workshop in Mumbai
Goltens set to bring in vibrancy in the ship maintenance and repairs sector in India

US headquartered Goltens Worldwide and leader in ship maintenance and repairs, opened their state-of-the-art workshop facility in Navi Mumbai on 30th October, 2009. Though the company had a representative office in the India since the last 8 years, it is only now that it established an Indian subsidiary for establishing the Mumbai workshop and to be followed soon by the launch of another workshop in Chennai next month.

“Set up with an investment of around $ 3 million the Mumbai workshop will provide a one stop solution to the needs of the shipping community as well as the power generation industry,” stated Paul F. Friedberg, President – Goltens Worldwide Services. “The reason for our entry into this country is that India is an important market. There is a lot of scope considering that the ship repair sector in India is not organised and there is no player providing a comprehensive and complete range of services in ship repairs. The coastal shipping trade too is showing signs of a booming trade.  We will be able to fill in the vacuum by offering our unmatched services which Goltens is known for. The Indian industry stands to gain a lot from our services because of our worldwide feedering arrangement which facilitates us to mobilise personnel, resources and tools at short notice to meet our international commitment round-the-clock, anywhere and anytime.”

To expand its global reach and keep abreast of the escalating demand from the growing tonnage and the ever-increasing sophistication in engine design, Goltens is investing about $ 10 million in four new facilities with new workshops in Vung Tau, Vietnam, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the one in India and a new office in Busan, South Korea. All four are due to open officially by November end this year.

The 70-year old company with its 1300 employees serving from 22 strategically locations round the world, boasts a clientele of over 4,000 including ship owners, shipyards, industrial plants and power stations.

Sandeep Seth, Managing Director of Goltens India stated, “As India continues to build more and more ships and the acquisition by the Indian ship owners continues to grows remarkably, India focus has become more pronounced.

Speaking about their wide range of services Jayanath Subramanian, Country Head, informed that in India Goltens will undertake repairs of diesel engines, diesel diagnostic service, reconditioning services, etc. Their workshop has In-situ shop, turbocharger shop, Welding shop, etc.
